This enchanting tale revolves around a family home nestled in the heart of the majestic Auvergne region. The owner's unwavering passion for the area and desire to share the simple joys of life here inspired him to continue writing the story of this remarkable house.

Situated in Vernet Sainte Marguerite, a village perched over 1000 meters above sea level, this haven is surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. From the rolling hills that give birth to the Monne river, to the southernmost volcano in the Puys chain and the towering slopes of Sancy, every corner of Auvergne holds its own unique charm. Ascending the D5 road towards Sancy offers a captivating panorama that will never cease to amaze, although traversing the snow-covered plateau in winter can prove to be a true test of skill for adventurous drivers reminiscent of Nordic countries.

This charming cottage, classified as 3-star, is an ideal sanctuary for hiking enthusiasts. It caters to those who crave traversing the volcanic craters as well as those who desire to conquer the peaks of the Massif Central.

The house itself boasts a beautiful slate roof, offering a rustic ambiance reminiscent of "raw wood and animal skins." Antique decor, ranging from old boxing gloves to ancestral squash racquets and vintage transistor horns adorning the walls as trophies, immerses guests in a world of nostalgia. Modern comforts, however, remain discreetly integrated. A pellet stove cozily tucked between the hutch and buffet, a comfortable couch, and a TV screen cleverly hidden in a custom-made cabinet, harken back to a time when the ORTF (French Radio and Television Broadcasting Corporation) was yet to grace the airwaves. The kitchen, while charmingly dated with its open counter to the dining room, does not yet boast a dishwasher.

To fully embrace the sun's journey, one can enjoy breakfast on the deck or the balcony. From these vantage points, one can admire the quaint and rural heritage of Vernet Sainte Marguerite. A sweeping glance captures the village church, the square with its monument honoring soldiers from both World Wars, the town hall, the fountain, and the wash house, where you may even spot some women still diligently doing their laundry. In the distance, the majestic Puy Allou completes this picturesque scene.

Ascending the wooden staircase leads to the attic, where a cozy sleeping area awaits. Two bedrooms, one with a double bed (140) and the other with two single beds (90), provide a peaceful haven. The bathroom and toilet are conveniently located on the living room level.

Situated between Lake Chambon and Lake Aydat, amidst the Nordic areas of Pessade and Beaune le Froid, and surrounded by the peaks of Puy Balladou and the gorges of Monne, Pebble Cottage is an idyllic retreat to experience the wonders of Auvergne in every season.
