Complete Property Description:

"La Grange de Julie" was originally a barn, when the Annecy lakeside was essentially rural.
The house is in it's own garden, away from the road, and so is very quiet even though it is in the middle of the village of Lathuile, and only 1 km away from the lake. The surrounding views are of the mountains with their ever changing colors : La Tournette, le Col de la Forclaz, le Charbon…
Owner-architect Jean-François transformed the almost empty volume into our family home, keeping the 18th century beams – and adding a few more, as well a big open fireplace in the ground floor dining room. French windows have replaced the original barn doors so that sunlight flows in all day.
Needless to say that the heating, hot water and bathrooms are completely up to modern standards!
The house is furnished with a mixture of family heirlooms, books, toys old and new, colorful bedspreads and hand-embroidered cushions, a piano… almost everything has a funny story to it, and is meant to be used and enjoyed.
La Grange de Julie's rooms are each different – but each one has an ensuite bathroom; all the rooms are painted white, only the bathrooms are gaily colored.
The ground floor room has a French window that opens to the garden to the West. The walls are painted white and hung with pastel water-colors (painted in the 1940s by an American Great-Grandmother), the ground is tiled in soft gray, there is a double bed and a mahogany desk. It is a very separate, private room, and also the only one we sometimes accept pets in.
There are two rooms upstairs, both with large windows to the East with a lovely view of the mountains (and, of course, the trees, the birds and the paragliders). These rooms have hardwood floors and high sloping ceilings with exposed beams.
One room has a double bed and a single bed, and can receive a baby cot. In this room, there is a classical mountain wardrobe, quite a few cartoon books that have been read by several generations, and a collection of old and new metallic toys.
The other room has a second window looking South. Here there are two single beds and a cot (for a child up to three years old) – and an antique school desk.
Another room (with a double bed) should be finished by this summer !
We also have a “family room” : two communicating rooms, one with a double bed and the second with two single beds – and one bathroom.
We furnish all linens and towels, can loan you necessities such as a bottle-warmer, an iron, a hair dryer, … However, we do not do room-service.
On request, we can provide a television for your room.

Attractions & Facilities

Annecy is a enchanting historical town – and just 15 kms away; from our house, you can drive there, or cycle, or take a bus... or, in summer, take a boat ! Annecy is not only a lovely place to just walk around, with old passageways along the canals between lovingly restored Italian renaissance houses (market days are favorites), but is also a lively place with museums, concerts, festivals... a kaleidoscope of cultural and sports activities
Sport lovers will find a large choice of activities all year around easily accessible from our house. In winter, skiing or snowboarding, if preferred, is just 20 km away; the rest of the year, you can enjoy hiking (you can leave from our house), cycling (a cycling trail all the way to Annecy is 1 km away), paragliding (the Col de la Forclaz in front of our windows is a well-known spot), golf (two golf-clubs are less than 10 km from here),… and in summer, all the water sports : the lake is 23°, and perfect for bathing and sailing, or, higher up, canyoning,…
The area abounds in natural reserves – the first one is 2 km from our house.
It is also to be noted that very many restaurants are to be found all around the lake – you can choose from the whole scale from simple local food (mostly based on cheese) to "three star" Chef's cooking.
Around Annecy, castles, churches and abbeys are witnesses to the rich history of our region.
Further away, Chamonix-Mont Blanc is a possible day-excursion.
Shopping facilities : Doussard, 2km from our house, has all the necessary shops.

Directions

From Annecy, take the direction Faverges/Albertville by R.N. 508 (the lake is on your left side).
When you get right at the other end of the lake (called « Bout du Lac » after Duingt and before getting to Doussard), turn right in direction of Lathuile till you get to the roundabout.
Turn right again at the roundabout (route de Chevilly), la Grange de Julie is 450 metres (n°450) further on, on your right again.
