Once the home of an order of Carmalite monks, this old Mas set in the tranquil countryside of Provence

Description of Les Carmes Bed & Breakfast:

Once the home of an order of Carmalite monks, this old Mas set in the tranquil countryside of Provence, is being totally renovated into a luxurious Chambre D'Hote by the new owners Mike & Ann Parkes, together, with twin son's, Simon assisting with the building work and James, trained by Two Star Michelin Chef Martin Blunos of Bath, providing gastronomic delights and a Residential Cookery School offering comprehensive courses in Provencal cuisine.

Attractions:

The countryside around Les Carmes has numerous small towns each with their own character and charm. L'Isle sur La Sorgue and it's famous Sunday market which takes over the town, selling everything, local grown vegetables, bread, material, clothes and flowers. L'Isle is also know for being the Antiques centre and on a Sunday you will find a huge variety of books, bric a brac, furniture and all manner of antiquities in the market. Small cafe's at every corner offer refreshments all through the day making the Sunday market an experience not to be missed. The river Sorgues as it flows down to the village of Fontaine de Vaucluse, famous for the source of the river starting here. The walk up to the cavern where the river emerges from underground, is not for the fainthearted, but it does have an array of small shops and cafe's for those who enjoy a rest now and again. There is also an old working paper mill, illustrating how paper was produced many years ago. The source of the river Sorgue, where it emerges from the underground cavern. In winter the water level is very high, this picture was taken in summer when the level is very low.

Fantastic!

We loved our stay at Les Carmes last summer. Our room was spacious and beautifully furnished. The hosts were awesome - food was exceptional. I especially loved the delicious croissants in the morning. I would definitely stay here again if in the Provence region. It was truly a Provencial experience with the cicadas, sunflowers (down the road), and lavander. Great location too! Perfect!
