Location, Location, Location - You'll find it hard to better this one, situated in one of the most picturesque villages in the Poitou Charente region. On the banks of the river Charente, just round the corner from the stunning village chateau, Les Bruyeres offers superior bed and breakfast accommodation in a lovingly restored barn retaining many original features.
The village of Verteuil sur Charente has a choice of three restaurants and two bars, bakers, butchers, a greengrocer, tabac/ general store, pharmacy etc. all within easy walking distance.
Situated only 5 minutes south of the bustling market town of Ruffec, 5km from the main RN10 and within easy reach of airports at Angouleme, Poitiers, Limoges and La Rochelle it's an ideal location to explore Southwest France.

Description of Les Bruyeres Bed & Breakfast:

Whether you're house hunting, enjoying a relaxing holiday or just spending one night on your way to somewhere else, you'll find it hard to better the location, facilities and standard of accomodation at Les Bruyeres at Verteuil sur Charente.

Driving through the Charente countryside with its fields of sunflowers and sweetcorn you may be lucky and stumble on the charming village of Verteuil 5 mins south of the bustling market town of Ruffec. The river Charente winds its way under the walls of the 15 century chateau which looms above the tranquil village which also has 3 cafe/bars, 2 restaurants, bakers, butchers, tabac/ general store, pharmacy etc.






Entrance and courtyard
Passing through the large old farm gates you enter a high walled, private courtyard with balconies, and in summer, a stunning display of hanging baskets and flower arrangements. At the back of the courtyard is an open barn with secure, under cover parking for up to 6 cars.





Accomodation
We have 3 spacious, en suite, bedrooms plus a communal kitchen dining area in a self contained, converted barn, which retains many of the original features such as exposed beams, dressed Charantaise stone and even an original feeding trough. All rooms have central heating.





Bedrooms
All three bedrooms have an en suite with shower, hand washbasin and toilet. Each bedroom also has ample wardrobe and drawer storage, English to French electric adapters, a hairdrier and a radio/CD alarm. Rooms are serviced daily with a towel change if required, shampoo/shower gel and soap are also provided. A baby's cot and/or supplementary camp bed can be put in any of the three rooms if required.

Ground floor family room - Double bed, 2 wardrobes and sitting area with easy chairs, coffee table and settee which converts to a double bed for families.

1st floor double rooms x 2 - One room with double and single beds and one with double bed. Both rooms have dressing table, easy chairs and built in wardrobes.



Dining kitchen
One thing we always missed when staying in Bed & Breakfast accommodation was the lack of facilities for making hot drinks, preparing picnics or even cooking a meal. With this in mind we have incorporated a fully fitted kitchen for the exclusive use of our guests. In the kitchen you'll find :
Four ring electric hob and oven
Microwave oven, fridge
Kettle, coffee percolator,Slow cooker, toaster, steamer
Full set of pots, pans, casseroles and utensils
Crockery, glasses and cutlery
Dining table seating up to 8 people
Please help yourself to free tea and coffee whenever you wish

In this area you'll also find English TV with all the FreeView channels,a wide selection of board games and videos information on all local attractions and places to eat.

WIFI internet access is available in all rooms.

We have a separate laundry with washing, drying and ironing facilities should you need them.

If you’re house hunting, then we are more than willing to pass on our knowledge and answer any questions you may have about the process of buying and renovating a property or integrating into French life (health, tax, French language courses etc.) or If you’re simply taking a relaxing break we’re on hand to help with advice on local attractions and places to visit.



Sun Terrace and Garden
From the kitchen French doors lead out onto the East facing sun terrace with covered gazebo where, in summer you can eat your breakfast in the morning sunshine.

The lawned garden has a pergola walkway around three sides and enjoys the sun from early in the morning to late afternoon.

Attractions:

Located about 45 minutes drive south from Poitiers airport or 1 hr from Limoges and only 5 minutes from the main RN10 which give easy access to explore – The surrounding countryside is ideal for bird watching, walking, fishing, horse riding, painting etc. You can also hire canoes, bicycles and quad bikes. Angoulême – 30 mins – parapeted city with pedestrian streets and a multitude of pavement cafes. Nautilus water park with its man made beach, sailing, wind surfing etc. La Vallée des Singes – 30 mins – more than 250 monkeys living in total liberty. Cognac/Jarnac – 45 mins – Beautiful towns on the river Charente and homes to the cognac distilleries of Hennessy, Remy Martin etc. Poitiers - 45 mins - offers lots to see in terms of art and architecture as well as the impressive church of Notre-Dame. The busy centre is full of narrow, winding pedestrian streets ideal for shopping and exploring. Futuroscope – 1hr – unique virtual reality theme park offering fun for all the family Limoges – 1hr – famous for its porcelain manufacture and cobbled streets The Atlantic coast -1hr 30 mins – visit the fishing ports of La Rochelle, Rochefort, Royan with their superb, sandy beaches fabulous aquarium and trips to Fort Boyard Saintes – 1 hr – Steeped in Roman history, one of the most beautiful cities in France

De passage pour la nuit du 17 aout en couple avec deux enfants de 4 et 6 ans, nous avons ete chaleureusement accueilli par Jan and Adam Hunter. Hebergement irreprochable, discretion et efficacite des gerants. Rien ne manquait et le repas etait tres bon. Le cadre et les environs sont superbes. Encore merci a  Jan and Adam Hunter pour leur gentillesse et le soins qu'ils apportent a  leur hebergement. Nous vous souhaitons une bonne et longue continuation.

Nous avons passé une nuit aux bruyères. L'accueil était excellent. Il en est de même pour la qualité de l'hébergement. Le cadre est très sympa, avec la Charente qui coule devant la porte de la résidence
