Description for B&B:THE HISTORY OF THE HOUSE
The present building was constructed around the year 1780, but dates back to the 11th century. The foundations of the Chateau with their vaulted cellars and an ancient well confirms that. The present Village Church, previously the private chapel to the Chateau, and adjacent to the house, is also of the same gallo-romanic period.
The old castle, at that time, was the base for the Comte de Montalembert. It was burnt down in the thirteenth century. There is a local legend which tells the story of the fire being associated with a maid who was falsely accused of stealing the jewels of her mistress, and then executed by fire. Since then, it is said, that the bourg of Montalembert is haunted by her ghost. You sometimes find the lower parts of this hilltop village, below the house, surrounded by mysterious mists known as "Les Brumes de Montalembert".
La Suite de la Comtesse" has a vividly decorated ambience, whilst "La Suite du Comte" feels more subtle and reserved, both suites are furnished with antiques.

Located at approx 400 km south of Paris, 5 minutes from the N10 (Paris - Bordeaux - Spain) between Poitiers and Angouleme. You just follow the signs from the N10 to Montalembert. Our house, overlooking the plains, is located next to the village church (the former chapel of the castle)
