Description for B&B:

Le Camelia, is a Maison d'Maitre built in the late 1890's. Two minutes walk takes you into the town centre (no need to drive to the bars) yet leaving Le Camelia by the side gate two minutes walk brings you into the countryside (beautiful walking country). At the tip of the Hautes-Pyrénées it is no more than 10 minutes drive from the Gers with Marciac, famous for it's jazz festival or Madiran, famous for it's wine. Le Camelia has a choice of self catering accommodation, independant with enclosed parking in the courtyard. There is ample space to relax in the gardens where you will find sun loungers and hammocks. And if you want to keep fit there is also a gym and yoga room. The old wash house has been renovated into the perfect spot to keep cool. Maubourguet also has it's own excellent swimming pool and is open throughout the school Summer holiday's.

Appréciations pour Le Camellia, Maubourguet:

Review by: Jane Fricker, Oct 23 2009 1:57PM
Catherine is a fantastic host and this is a lovely place to stay. Le Camellia's location is ideal, 2 minutes walk from the town centre with many restaurants yet in a peaceful setting. The rooms are spacious and very well equipped with nice finishing touches including fresh figs and hazelnuts from Catherines own garden! The breakfast is a feast of fresh produce and the hospitality and knowledge of Catherine and her husband is priceless. Secure car parking also. We had a very enjoyable stay and would highly recommend you stay there.

Less than one hour from Pau airport or Tarbes/Lourdes, two hours from Toulouse or Bordeaux or under two hours from Biaritz gives you a choice of routes by plane. Driving down from UK is possible within a day but it's a long drive so an overnight stop half way is always recommended.

Travelling here by road: Nearest autoroute is A64 Bayonne - Toulouse (Info-route 0 825 065) Plan your route with By Train: Nearest main train station is Tarbes with direct connections to Paris (Information and reservations 08 36 35 35 35) SNCF (French Railways) By Air:Airports: Biarritz (2 hrs), Toulouse (2 hrs), Bordeaux (2hrs), Pau (50 kms), and Tarbes-Lourdes (25 kms) Airlines: Ryanair, Easyjet, Air France, BA, and you can see an overview of them all at skyscanner. On your return home, you’ll be pleased (or may be not!) to know that all of the airports mentioned are well equipped with duty-free shopping, cafés, bars, newsagents, restaurants and boutique style shops.

Hiring a car for your holiday (if travelling by plane)

We recommend hiring a car for your stay as this will enable you to make the most of your holiday. Taxis are expensive and only plentifull at airports and in the larger towns in France. Buses are available but run mainly during school hours. A car would enable you to explore more of this fascinating area on your own schedule. Although you can hire a car from the aiports once you land it makes more sense to arrange the hire car in advance of your stay to ensure availability of the type of car you would like. Just like all over France, car hire is painless and economical and once on the road you’ll discover that getting around is quite easy, even if you don’t speak French. Once you’ve booked we’ll send you detailed directions for you to find your way easily. The journey time depends from which airport you have chosen but can take from 45 minutes to two hours.

Prices and reservations for car hire at Toulouse, Biaritz, Bordeaux, Tarbes/Lourdes or Pau airports can be found on the websites of a number of global car hire companies, including Avis, Europcar and Budget.
