Description for Gite

Les Caselles: A Historic Farmhouse on the Causse

Discover the rich history and sustainable, quality tourism at our farmhouse, Les Caselles. Dating back to the 17th century, this authentic Aveyron building in the heart of the Grands Causses Natural Park showcases the craftsmanship of the renowned builders from the nearby village of Saint-Beauzely.

Located near Millau, the Gorges du Tarn, and the Larzac plateau, Saint-Beauzely holds historical significance as the birthplace of the fortifications for the Templar and Hospital cities. Immerse yourself in the captivating history of the region while staying at our picturesque hamlet of Azinières.

Once a thriving Causses farm, Les Caselles played a crucial role in the production of the famous Roquefort cheese. With over 400 hectares of land, the farm allowed sheep to graze on the nutrient-rich Causse Rouge, known for its exceptional flora.

Over time, the farm fell into disrepair and neglect, threatening the integrity of this proud Caussenarde building. However, in the year 2000, a passionate buyer embarked on an extraordinary renovation journey, with the vision of transforming Les Caselles into a farm inn. The result is a magical place where travelers can experience the true essence of the region.

Today, Mikaël and Alizée Pélégry, the current owners, have taken on the challenge of preserving the heritage of Les Caselles while embracing sustainable and responsible tourism practices. As the former director of a Parisian theater, Mikaël's perspective on life shifted after significant events in the performing arts industry. The birth of their daughter further motivated them to create a unique living environment in Aveyron, their ancestral home.

Committed to environmental sustainability, Mikaël and Alizée have transformed Les Caselles into an eco-friendly, low-energy home. Thanks to the expertise of local companies, the farmhouse now features five top-of-the-range guest rooms, a charming gite, and various communal and private areas, all with energy consumption comparable to a single-family home.

They take pride in offering their guests high-performance, eco-responsible equipment, ensuring a guilt-free and responsible experience. From small changes like LED lighting and rainwater usage to major adaptations like solar panels and an electric vehicle charging point, every action contributes to their sustainable approach to tourism.

The table d'hotes at Les Caselles also follows the same philosophy, focusing on short circuits and using fresh, local, and quality products to showcase the region's producers and the richness of Aveyron.

Mikaël and Alizée strive to create a welcoming atmosphere that embodies the essence of an authentic Aveyron house. Their commitment to excellence ensures that every visitor has a remarkable experience.

Join us at Les Caselles for a "slow tourism" experience, where you can indulge in picturesque, sporting, and green holidays, while contributing to the preservation of this extraordinary region.
